Update - CBAM
Consultation responses now submitted
Until September 25, all companies in the EU, national authorities, academic institutions, and relevant stakeholders in partner countries outside the EU affected by CBAM have had the opportunity to submit their views on:
- Rules for calculating embedded emissions in CBAM goods
- Adjustment of CBAM allowances in relation to free allowances under the EU ETS
- Deduction for carbon price paid in third countries
The aim is to simplify the CBAM Regulation, reduce costs, create legal clarity, support Member States' implementation, and strengthen the overall effectiveness of the CBAM.
However, there is still a lack of clarity from the EU on two key areas:
- How third parties outside the EU will be approved to verify manufacturer data
- Which EU standards CO2 emissions will be measured against
